Autumn Walks

Saturday, October 26, 2013 @ 09:10 AM

Just in case you hadn’t noticed, autumn looks like it’s going to be an absolute corker this year – the colours of the leaves seem particularly vibrant and it’s still warmer than average… which all adds up to a riot of reds, yellows, oranges and browns.

If you had been wondering, the intensity of leaf colour does very from year to year, and it looks like 2013 is going to be vintage. The cold spring and warm summer have combined to create the perfect conditions for sugars to build up in the leaves and this helps the trees look as if they’re on fire :)

There’s never been a better time to get out and enjoy it, so have a look at our list of great autumn gardens and get out there amongst the leaves.

Other recommendations for an autumn walk include the National Aboretum at Westonbirt in Gloucester, Grizedale & Whinlatter in Cumbria and the Forest of Dean in the South West.

Go on kick some leaves with the kids ;-)
