Saturday Snippet: Has Spring Sprung?

Saturday, November 2, 2013 @ 12:11 PM

Have you noticed that some spring bulbs flower in the autumn. I remember thinking I must have been either three sheets to the wind or had done something horribly wrong, when some muscari I had in a window box outside the flat started to flower in Octoberish a couple of years ago. I never did get to the bottom of why?

Well it seems that I was neither, squiffy nor was I negligent, because even the RHS (Royal Horticulatural Society) can’t fathom out why some bulbs do this, so they’re going to put a database together to see if they can get some clues – and they need our help!

So if you have a plant that’s flowering wildly out of season they want to hear from you. Send a picture with a little note about where it is planted and your postcode  to gardeningadvice@rhs.org.uk.
